Fishing Abroad

Where in the world could you experience such fantastic and
diverse fishing than up the east coast of America. By
'trawling' the internet you'll discover that there are just
thousands of companies waiting to arrange whatever your
heart desires (or your pocket can afford!). Here are just a
few ideas that could give you some direction for further
research, ranging from the warm waters of Florida to the
decidedly chilly ices of northern Quebce. The choice is
your.

Florida Keys or the 'Fishing Capital of the World'. Here
you find the warm gulf stream waters that provide a home to
some of the finest areas of coral in the world, offering
not only the ultimate in 'sunny clime' fishing but
wonderful scuba diving and snorkelling. It's therefore an
ideal place for a family holiday with different activities
for the different members of the family - satisfaction all
round! You can charter a boat of varying size depending on
your budget and they fish that you're after, but you'll
find that they'll be well equipped but for your comfort and
for your fishing.

If Florida is too hot to handle then why not try North
Carolina. Here the choice of fish is definitely different
but equally varied and delicious with not only excellent
game fish but also a wide variety of sea food. Here you can
try surf casting, trolling diving and spear fishing or deep
sea fishing in the Gulf Stream. If you love salt water
fishing you'll find it difficult to find anywhere better.
There's plenty of choice of boat for charter; some being
very luxurious and splendid.

Still further north you'll find the Atlantic salmon
fishing and black bear hunting region around Quebec. Up
here you'll find some of North America's best salmon lodges
where fishing is quite simply a way of life and where
salmon fishers have brought a love and passion to this fine
art in which the fisher has to patiently build a
relationship with the fish based on respect. He learns how
to understand its behaviour and how it will react. The
fight is over when the salmon admits defeat or swims free.
The rivers are full and run clear. They are teaming with
salmon just waiting for you, but if you want to ring the
changes you could visit some of the tens of thousands of
lakes which are home to many varieties of trout, pike and
whitefish. The scenery inland is just breathtaking and
you'll find companies who will arrange guides and every
type of accommodation from the rustic through to the most
luxurious.

Heading still further north, you'll find the ancient art
of ice fishing which is the way of life of the indigenous
peoples of northern Quebec. Each year, around Christmas,
when the ice becomes thick enough on the lakes and rivers,
the village people drag hundreds of small, colourful shacks
onto the ice. Some villages have up to seventeen hundred of
these and it is a small tourist industry that is helping
the local people considerably. The shacks are of differing
standards and can, at the top end, be warm and highly
comfortable. The season only lasts from Christmas through
to February and they will give you the chance to be at one
with nature; to experience a solitude and a stillness that
are rare in this mad world of speed and efficiency. You're
likely to catch a mixture of walleye, yellow perch and
pike; redfish, cod and turbot and rainbow and speckled
trout depending on the exact location you visit.
